Farm Fresh: The Last Day

Well, that’s it.  The end of another great camp with another wonderful group of kids.  These guys were so eager to try new things in the kitchen, and new foods.  We were lucky to have them at The Kitchen Studio.  Check out these great pics:

Farm Fresh: Thursday

Today, the little guys were introduced to Fred the egg separator.  He “snot” a mug…a little gross, but man, do these guys love it!  Add in one of my fellows saying “Hey, can I tell you something?” *pause* “It’s about zombies.” and you have an almost perfect camp day.  Can’t believe there’s just one more day with this group.

Today’s menu: Zucchini Casserole, Strawberry Yogurt Pops, Panzanella, and the start of gelato for tomorrow.  It was a good day. :)

Gracie can't believe that Fred is "snot" a mug. Too funny! :)

Good Cookin’, All Around

Boy, these kids can cook!  Check out these pics from yesterday and today (I think I may have finally figured out how to load in more than one at a time…):

When you're describing dimples in focaccia, it helps to have a kid around with real dimples!

Farm Fresh: Yay Tomatoes & Zucchini

Thought we’d get the kids really moving today by having them do some baking and whip up some pizzas with fresh-made tomato sauce on top and some tasty baked zucchini rounds to dip in the pizza sauce:

Look at her knead that dough!

They are all in...

Using a mandoline for zucchini rounds, verrrrrrrrry carefully

Go Gracie go!

Using the knife like a pro

Roll, roll, roll the dough...

And more rolling...

And more rolling. Whew!

Fresh New Camp: Farm Fresh Cooking

We started a brand new week of camps today, with en energetic and enthusiastic group of 6-8 year-olds and another great group of 8-11 year-olds.  This week we’ll be focusing on foods that are in season and grown locally, including lots and lots of fruits and veggies, with maybe some pizza thrown in for good measure.

Check out these terrific pics of some of our campers:

Cutting strawberries for jam

Getting ready for jam

"How small do you want these?"

Measuring with chopsticks? Who knew?!

Charlotte knows her way around the kitchen

So careful!

She was in that sugar up to her elbows!

"Ok Henry, stir it like you're mad at it, but not too mad"

Mash those strawberries!

Keep on mashing...

And mashing...

Now stir, stir, stir!

Now, onto whisking

Look at how he holds that knife...perfect!

We love cooking camp!
